Antonelli [email protected] Toby J. Teorey [email protected] Complex client-server configurations being designed today require a new and closely coordinated approach to analytic modeling and measurement. A closed queuing network model for a two-tiered PeopleSoft 6 client-server system with an Oracle database server is demonstrated using a new performance modeling tool that applies mean value analysis. The focus of this work is on the measurement and modeling of the PeopleSoft architecture to provide useful capacity planning insights for an actual large-scale universitywide deployment. A testbed and database exerciser are then developed to measure model parameters and perform the initial validation tests. The testbed also provides preliminary test data on a proposed three-tiered deployment architecture that includes the Citrix WinFrame environment as an intermediate level between the client and the Oracle server.

Capacity Planning for PeopleSoft

PeopleSoft is a complex multi-functional, multi-tier application. Important questions about its configuration, load balancing and capacity planning need to be answered during its deployment and production use. This paper describes an approach to answering such questions for the most commercially important configurations of PeopleSoft (3-tier, 2-tier and mixed). It covers architectural features ...

Adventures in Modeling PeopleSoft

A successful approach to analytical modeling of PeopleSoft performance for capacity planning and sizing is described. A case study for PeopleSoft, a complex multi-layer ERP application, demonstrates that its relevant internal architecture features should be considered in modeling. Statistical assumptions for workload generation need to be met for a proper model validation
